| intrinsic motivation | refers to the actions we take because of enjoyment and other internal factors |
| extrinsic motivation | refers to behavior that is driven by external rewards such as money, fame, grades, praise |
| IGP | document that shows a student’s course and diploma pathway from 8th grade to graduation |
| advanced placement classes | placement of a student in a high school course that offers college credit for earning a passing score on the exam |
| associate degree | undergraduate degree awarded by college upon completion of study that usually lasts about two years |
| bachelors degree | an undergraduate degree awarded by colleges upon completion of study that usually lasts about three to seven years |
| certificate program | program that is designed to give students mastery over a narrow subject area or topic. |
| college level exam program | program that offers students the opportunity to earn credit for introductory level college courses by achieving satisfactory score on subject specific tests |
| college prep courses | means by which college-bound high school students may better meet the scholastic requirements for entry into colleges and universities |
| credential | something that gives a title to credit or confidence; qualification |
| doctoral degree | the highest level of academic degree |
| dual enrollment classes | programs that allow students to be enrolled in two separate, academically related institutions; refers to high school students taking college courses |
| elective classes | classes you get to choose are pick that are not mandatory |
| FAFSA | form filled out annually by current and prospective college students to determine their eligibility for student financial aid |
| grants | money for college you do not have to pay back |
| IBC | a credential, usually issued by an industry or industry group, that verifies an individual has met the established skill standards that are required to enter the workforce |
| loans | money lent with interest that you have to pay back |
| college major | what you get your degree in |
| masters degree | usually a second academic degree, at a higher level, in a specific area of study |
| college minor | college or university students declared secondary academic discipline during undergraduate studies. |
| prerequisite | something that is necessary to an end or to the carrying out of a function-a class you have to take before you can take a certain other class |
| scholarship | a grant-in-aid to a student; money you do not have to pay back |
