TermDefinition
Stratum basale the “base layer” or deepest layer where mitosis and cell regeneration occur
Stratum gramulosum the “granular layer” or start of keratin surface formation and cell degeneration migrating upward
Stratum spinosom the “spiny layer” is composed of 8 to 10 layers of irregular shaped cells where presence of desmosomes gives cells a prickly appearance and RNA synthesize keratin.
Stratum lucidum the “clear layer” due to absent of nuclei in the flat, dying cell. Usually found in the thick skin of the soles of feet and palm.
Stratum corneum the “horny layer” is the most superficial layer where keratinization takes place.
The Epidermis contains what dead cells, keratin, melanocytes and serves as protection to the skin
The dermis contains what blood vessels, collagen, hair follicles which are all absent from the epidermis
The Subcutaneous tissue contains blood vessels, the nerves and also possess fat layers which are absent from the other layers, which helps in maintaining the right body temperature.
Sternum The medial part of the anterior chest wall is supported by a dagger-shaped bone
Lacrimal he very small bone that lies just posterior and lateral to each nasal bone
Fibula lower leg bone thats small and located laterally
