Gamete ovum or sperm; reproductive cell.
Gestation Period of development from conception to birth.
Gonad Sex gland; ovaries or testes.
Fimbriae Fingerlike extensions of the fallopian tube that sweep a ripe ovum into the tube.
Ejaculation Expulsion of sperm through the urethra.
Cervix Lower portion of the uterus that extends into the vagina.
Embryo Developing offspring during the first 8 week of gestation.
Fetus Developing offspring from the 9th week of gestation until birth.
Flagellum Long whiplike extension from a cell used for locomotion.
Implantation Embedding of a fertilized ovum into the uterine wall.
Menstruation Monthly flow.
Ovary Female reproductive gland.
Ovulation The release of a ripe ovum from an ovary.
Ovum Female gamete.
Penis Male external sex organ.
Placenta Structure that nourishes and maintains the developing fetus during pregnancy.
Pregnancy Period during which an embryo or fetus is developing inside the body.
Prostate gland Glad that aids in ejaculation and the creation of semen.
Scrotum Sack in which testes are suspended.
Semen Mixture of sperm cells and secretions from several glands of the male reproductive system.
Sperm Male gamete.
Testes Male reproductive gland.
Testosterone The male sex hormone produced in the testes.
Umbilical cord Structure that connects the fetus with the placenta, carrying blood from the placenta to the fetus.
Uterus Muscular, pear-shaped organ in the female reproductive system where a growing embryo and fetus are housed.
Fallopian Tubes Tubes that carry ripe ova from the ovaries to the uterus.
Vagina Muscular tube that extends from the uterus to the outside.
Vas deferens Tubes that carry sperm from the testes to the urethra.
Zygote Fertilized ovum.
