chapter 12

QuestionAnswer
SYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM= FIGHT OR FLIGHT SYSTEMACTIVE DURING TIMES OF STRESS/OR FEELING THREATENED(INCREASE HEART RATE,PUPILS DILATE)
INNERVATE BLOOD VESSELS= INCREASE STIMULATION:(BLOOD VESSELS-CONSTRICT)DECREASE STIMULATION:(BLOOD VESSELS-DILATE)
PARASYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM= RESTING AND DIGESTING SYSTEM{NONSTRESSFUL CONDITIONS}(decrease heart rate)pupils constrict
SYMPATHOLYTIC DRUGS= prevents the increase in cardiac activity when the sympathetic nerves are fired
PARASYMPATHOLYTIC DRUG= BLOCKS THE PARASYMPATHETIC EFFECT ON THE HEART;INCREASES H RATE
AUTONOMIC TONE= parasympathetic tone is dominate,but sympathetic tone can override it all any time-in slight contraction
VASOMOTOR TONE= blood vessels are innervated by the sympathetic NS only(bl vess)constrict to increase BP{dilate to decrease BP}
Preganglionic neurons= travel from CNS to the ganglion{group of cell bodies in PNS
POSTGANLIONIC NEURONS= travel from the ganglion to the target organ
SYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM= short preganglionic fibers.long postganglionic fibers (thoracolumbar division
NEUROTRANSMITTERS= Ach secreted by sympathetic preganglionic fibers NE secreted by sympathetic postganglionic fibers
Adrenergic fiber (NE is also called noradrenaline) secretes NE (norepinephrine)
Cholinergic fiber secretes ACH (acetlchorine)
