democracy supreme power is its citizens and exercised through a system of representation involving free elections. Citizens play a role
autocracy single ruler with unlimited power; citizens have no role
parliamentary democracy citizens elect MPs, who in turn elect the Prime Minister, as chief executive. Is a member of legislature.
presidential democracy citizens elect members of legislature and chief executive (the president). Not a member of legislature.
dictator ruler with absolute power and authority
fascism total power is given to a dictator; no individual freedoms
figurehead this person represents the country but does not have many duties in the government
monarchy government headed by a king or queen; it is hereditary
Prime Minister executive leader of a parliamentary democracy; elected by legislature
president executive leader of a presidential democracy; elected by citizens
Head of Government handles the day to day operations of a country; makes decisions for a country
chancellor executive leader of a parliamentary democracy; elected by the legislature
Head of State represents the country as a spokesperson or figurehead
chief executive heads the military, enforces laws, keeps country running from day to day
Parliament name of legislature in a parliamentary democracy
