Epidermis Superficial layer of skin
Dermis Deep, thicker layer of skin
Melanin What gives our skin pigment
Strata Another word for layers of skin
Stratum Basale Deepest Layer of the epidermis
Stratum Lucidum AKA the "clear layer". Not in thin skin. More likely to be in the soles of the feet and palms of the hands where skin is thicker
Stratum Corneum AKA "horny layer". Most superficial layer of the skin
Hyperkeratosis epidermis thickens far beyond normal limits
Hypodermis AKA SQ layer.
Nail body Visibly part of the nail
Sebaceous glands secrete oil for hair and skin
Functions of bone Support, Protection, Movement, Mineral Storage, and Forms blood cells
Insertion point of attachment that moves when the muscle contracts
Origin point of attachment that does not move when the muscle contracts
