Bill Of Rights

The first ten amendments to the Constitution and the freedoms they protect

TermDefinition
1st Amendment Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, assembly, and petition the Government.
2nd Amendment The right to bear arms
3rd Amendment Do not have to house troops unless the owner gives consent.
4th Amendment Protection from unwarranted searches and seizures of property or effects.
5th Amendment "Double Jeopardy", protection from testifying against yourself
6th Amendment Speedy trial by jury
7th Amendment Civil suit in court over amounts greater than $20 can be heard by a jury.
8th Amendment Protection from excessive bail, fines, and cruel and unusual punishments
9th Amendment The rights listed in the constitution are not limited or an exhaustive list of rights/freedoms
10th Amendment Powers not given to the Government by the constitution are reserved for the states.
