Bicameral A legislature made up of 2 houses
Biennial Something that occurs twice a year
Cabinet A group of top level officials that advise the governor
Charter A government document that grants official permissions
Mandate A federal law requiring states to take specific actions
General Assembly Virginia's lawmaking branch of state government, consisting of the House of Delegates and the Virginia Senate
Interest group Organizations created to press for laws and policies that favor their members
Legislation Laws passed by an elected lawmaking body
Levy A tax required by the state government
Ordinance A law passed at the local level
Regulate To control or create rules for
Attorney General Head of department that provides legal advice and services to Virginia government
