pathogen A bacterium, virus, or Microorganism that can cause disease
Lymphocytes Are a kind of white blood cell that help fight infections. there are two main types : B-cells and T-cells
Antigens Are molecules that can be found on pathogens or anything foreign in your body
Antibiotics Medicines that help stop infections caused by bacteria
Antibody Proteins made by some of your immune cells such as B-cells. Often have a Y like shape
Vaccines A way of exposing your body to an inactive form of a pathogen or a weakened form of a pathogen to produce immunity to a specific disease, protecting the person from that disease
herd immunity when most of a population is immune to an infectious disease, this provides indirect protection to those who are not immune to the disease
Antivirals Medications that reduce the ability of viruses to multiply
Immune System A complex network of cells and proteins that defends the body against infection
macrophages A type of phagocyte, that is responsible for detecting then engulfing a pathogen to destroy it
