Lymphatic System explained

| What do the lymphatic vessels do? | Absorb excess interstitial fluid and transport this fluid to ducts that drain into veins. |
| What produces lymphocytes? | Lymph nodes and lymphoid tissues in the thymus, spleen, and tonsils. |
| What are lymphocytes? | White blood cells involved in immunity. |
| What do lymphocytes provide? | Immunological defense against disease causing agents. |
| What are lymphatic capillaries composed of? | Endothelial cells with porous junctions. |
| What do lymph ducts empty into? | Either the Thoracic duct or right lymphatic duct. |
| What is returned back to the cardiovascular system? | Interstitial fluid, formed by filtration of plasma out of blood capillaries that is filtered through lymph nodes. |
| What do phagocytic cells do? | Help remove pathogens and germinal centers. |
| What are germinal centers? | Sites of lymphocytic production. |
| What are Lymphoid organs? | Tonsils, Thymus, spleen. |
