| condyle | oval bony prominence usually involved in joints |
| cornu | small hornlike prominence of a bone |
| crest | roughened border or ridge on bony surface |
| eminence | tubercle or small rounded elevation on bony surface |
| epicondyle | small prominence located superior to or upon a condyle |
| fissure | narrow cleft like opening in a bone |
| foramen / foramina | short windowlike opening(s) in a bone |
| fossa / fossae | deeper depressions (s) on bony surface |
| head | rounded structure projecting from a bony surface by a neck |
| incisura | indentation or notch at the edge of a bone |
| joint | site of a junction or union between two or more bones |
| line | small straight ridge of a bone |
| meatus | opening or canal in a bone |
| notch | indentation at edge of bone |
| ostium / ostia | smaller openings in a bone |
| perforation | abnormal hole in a hollow organ such as in the wall of a sinus |
| plate | flat structure of a bone |
| process | general term for any prominence on bony surface |
| spine | abrupt small prominence of a bone |
| sulcus / sulci | shallow depression(s) or groove(s) on a bony surface |
| suture | generally immovable articulation joining bones by fibrous tissue |
| tubercle | eminence or small rounded elevation on bony surface |
| tuberosity | large, often rough, prominence on bony surface |
