What are the steps to treating a fracture? | 1) Ensure area is safe, 2) Call 911, 3) Retrive first aid gun bag and litter, 4) "CAB " Circulation, Airway and Breathing, 5) Do not push in bone if sticking out. |
What are the steps to treating sucking chest wound? | Steps 1-4 are the same as fracture wound. Step 5) wipe blood and seal wound with palm, 6) use pice of plastic and tape or chest seal to cover wound, 7) check for exit wound, 8) complet head to toe asssesment , treat second injuries 9) |
What does CAB stand for? | Circulation, Airway, Breathing. |

What are the important steps to treating Abdominal Lacerations? | If organs are protruding: A. Do not apply pressure on intestines. B. Do not stick back in. |
How do you place a tourniquet? | a.Apply tourniquet 2-3 in above wound, not over a joint b. Right "T" and time of placement on forehead. c. I f bleeding continues, apply additional tourniquet closer to the body than previuos. d. Never release tourniquet once applied. |
How do you move a casualty away from a power source? | By using a non-conductive object. |

What are the three types of burns? | a. 1st degree- red skin mild pain, b. 2nd degree- red skin, blisters, severe pain. c. 3rd degree-charred black skin/tissue, may not be painful due to nerve damage. |
how do you estimate the burned body percentage? | By using the "Rule of Nines" |
What are important steps when treating a burn victim? | 1) Do not break blisters, and 2) Do not remove burnt clothing sticking to skin. |
What do you not do when treating a puncture wound? | Do not remove penetrating object. |
What are the three ways for controlling bleeding? | 1) Direct pressure, 2) Pressure point, 3) Tourniquet (last resort). |
When a joint is forcibly displaced from its joint, the injury is known as what? | Dislocation. |
What are some signs for suicide? | verbal threats and suicidal gestures. |
What should you not do to a dislocation? | Do not attempt to reduce it / move back into place. |
What are some tell signs of a dislocation? | Bruise, swelling of the area, loss of ability to use joint, severe pain/ muscle spasms, numbness and loss of pulse below the joints. |
What are some emergency measures for a dislocation? | loosen the clothing around the injury, place victim in a comfortable position, support injured part with a sling, pillow, bandage,, splint, or any other possible way, treat for shock, an get medical attention as soon as possible. |
Important thing to know about dislocations? | Never attempt to reduce more serious dislocations such as the hip. |
If the victim cannot be treated by a medical officer within a reasonable time what dislocations can you make an effort to reduce? | Jaw, finger, or shoulder, |
what are sprains? | Injuries to ligaments and soft tissues that support a joint. |
What causes a sprain? | Violent wrenching or twisting of the joint beyond normal limits. |
What are some symptoms of a sprain? | Pain or pressure at the joint, pain upon movement, swelling and tenderness, possible loss of movement, and discoloration. |
What are some steps for emergency care of a sprain? | Application of cold packs for the first 24 to 48 hours to reduce swelling, elevate and rest affected area, and apply a snug, smooth figure eight bandage. After swelling stops moist heat can be applied for short periods of time (15- 30 min). |
What is an important thing to know about treating a sprain? | Heat should not be applied until 24 hours after the last cold pack. |
