Government of the People - Rights and Responsibilities

Government A system or group that rule over a community of people, or a country
Republic A system where people elect representatives to make laws and run the government
Rights Basic freedoms that every human should enjoy in life
Citizen A person legally recognized, that is born in a specific country
Democracy A type of government that give power to the people to make decisions
Citizenship The status of being legally recognized by a country
Constitution A written plan of government that outline the rules and system of government
Council A group of people that meet regularly to make decisions
Federal The central government of the USA; A system made up of 3 branches; located in Washington, DC
National Related to a whole nation or country, made up of smaller states and supported by the federal government
Election A system of voting to elect people in office, the process of selecting people to make decisions
Representative A person elected in office to speak for a group of people; an elected council member that represents a community
