Lymphatic System
| Term | Definition |

| Lymphatic System | Includes cells, tissues , and organs that defend against pathogens. |
| Pathogens | disease-causing organisms : viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites |
| Lymphocytes | primary cells in lymphatic system, specialized white blood cells. |
| Immunity | The ability to resist infection and disease |
| innate ( nonspecific immunity) | Anatomical barriers and defense mechanisms, do not distinguish between pathogens. |
| Adaptive ( specific immunity) | Lymphocytes respond to specific pathogen, called the immune response. |
| Lymphatic vessels or lymphatics | from peripheral tissue to veins. |
| Lymph fluid | Found in blood vessels , similar to plasma , lower in proteins. |
| Four components of the Lymphatic System | Lymphatic vessels, lymph fluid, lymphocytes and Lymphoid tissues or organs. |
| Function of the Lymphatic system | Production maintenance and distribution of lymphocytes. Distributes hormones , nutrients and waste products into general circulation. |
