Lymphatic System

TermDefinition
Lymphatic System Includes cells, tissues , and organs that defend against pathogens.
Pathogens disease-causing organisms : viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites
Lymphocytes primary cells in lymphatic system, specialized white blood cells.
Immunity The ability to resist infection and disease
innate ( nonspecific immunity) Anatomical barriers and defense mechanisms, do not distinguish between pathogens.
Adaptive ( specific immunity) Lymphocytes respond to specific pathogen, called the immune response.
Lymphatic vessels or lymphatics from peripheral tissue to veins.
Lymph fluid Found in blood vessels , similar to plasma , lower in proteins.
Four components of the Lymphatic System Lymphatic vessels, lymph fluid, lymphocytes and Lymphoid tissues or organs.
Function of the Lymphatic system Production maintenance and distribution of lymphocytes. Distributes hormones , nutrients and waste products into general circulation.
