CT membranes
Types of connective tissue membranes
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Synovial | thin layers of areolar tissue that line the joint cavities. they secrete lubricating fluid that reduces friction b/w the ends of bones. They line small sacs called bursae. |
| Meninges | membranous layers covering the brain and spinal cord. |
| Superficial fascia (subcutaneous fascia) | continuous sheet of tissue that underlines the skin. Composed of areolar and adipose tissue, it insulates the body and cushions the skin. |
| Deep fascia | covers, separates, and protects skeletal muscles, nerves, and blood vessels. Consists of dense CT. |
| Fibrous pericardium | forms the cavity that encloses the heart, the pericardial cavity. |
| Periosteum | membrane covering a bone. |
| Perichondrium | membrane covering cartilage. |
