Anatomic Planes

TermDefinition
midline separates body parts into halves - midline is a common reference point
frontal/coronal vertical line, passes through side to side - separates body into anterior and posterior portions
midsagital vertical line, passes front to back, separates body into right and left halves
parasagital vertical line, passes front to back, separates body into unequal left and right portions
sagital vertical line, passes front to back, separates body into right and left halves (any plane parallel to midsagital)
transverse horizontal line, separates body into superior and inferior portions
