Medical Terminology STROKE

CVA abbreviation for cerebrovascular accident
cerebrovascular accident accident involving the blood vessels of the brain
stroke loss of brain function caused by interruption of blood flow/supply to the brain
hemorrhagic stroke a stroke where blood loss is caused by the rupture of a blood vessel
ischemic stroke stroke where blood loss is caused by blockage
TIA abbreviation for transient ischemic attack
transient ischemic attack "mini-stroke" caused by blockage of blood vessel, which resolves (goes away) within 24 hours
ischemia restriction of blood supply
isch- suppression or deficiency
