TermDefinition
Biology divided into many specialized fields that cover their morphology physiology, anatomy, behavior, origin and distribution.
organism an individual animal, plant, or single-celled life form.
Biotic (factor) relating to or resulting from living, especially in their ecological relations.
Abiotic (factor) physical rather than biological not derived from living organisms.
Prokaryotic/Prokaryote is a unicellular organism that lacks a membrane-bound nucleus, mitochondria or any other membrane-bound organelle.
Eukaryotic/Eukaryote an organism whose cells contain a nucleus surrounded by a membrane and whose DNA is bound together by proteins (histones) into chromosomes.

Autotrophic/Autotroph An organism that manufactures its own food from inorganic substances, such as carbon dioxide and ammonia.
Heterotrophic/Heterotroph an organism deriving its nutritional requirements from complex organic substances.
Respiration a process in living organisms involving the production of energy, typically with the intake of oxygen and the release of carbon dioxide from the oxidation of complex organic substances.
Aerobic relating to, involving, or requiring free oxygen.
Anaerobic relating to, involving, or requiring free oxygen.
Regulation a rule or directive made and maintained by an authority.
Reproduction the action or process of making a copy of something.
Sexual relating to the instincts, physiological processes, and activities connected with physical attraction or intimate physical contact between individuals.
Asexual (of reproduction) not involving the fusion of gametes.
Nutrition the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth.
Excretion a product of excretion.
Transport one place to another by means of a vehicle, aircraft, or ship.
Synthesis the production of chemical compounds by reaction from simpler materials.
Growth something that has grown or is growing.
Metabolism the chemical processes that occur within a living organism in order to maintain life.
Homeostasis the tendency toward a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes.
