What was the framers of the constitution purpose for creating a government? They designed a government to endure and divide power between the federal and state government. They designed the constitution to break free from English rule and to become independent, to make their "own rules."
How many respondents must a typical public opinion poll have? A public opinion must have 450-1500 people.
Describe a random sample and an exit poll. A random sample is where every individual in the population is randomly selected as a respondent for a poll, not a "set group". An exit poll is a poll of people that are asked after they voted who they voted for leaving a polling place.
What is double jeopardy? you can't be tried for the same crime twice
The is the Exclusionary rule? The Miranda Rule? -ability of courts to exclude evidence obtained in violation of the 4th amendment -people under arrest and being interrogated must be informed of their rights

What did the Civil Rights Act of 1964 cover? it ended segregation in public places and banned employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin
What is the American's Disabilities Act? cannot be discriminated against because of a disability
Describe Political Culture. a set of attitudes and practices held by a people that shapes their political behavior.
Where do political values come from? Most Americans acquire their political values early in life, and those values remain fairly stable through adulthood.
What is the most important core value to a liberal? a conservative? political and social reform social and economic status quo
Define framing, digital citizenship, and primin -the power of the media to influence how events and issues are interpreted -the power of the media to influence how events and issues are interpreted -the process of preparing the public to take a particular view
What is a random sample? subset of individuals chosen from a larger set.
What constitutes a good poll? a “good poll” is not only dependent on sample size and sound methodology – but also on the intention of the pollster!
What is the equal time rule? The equal-time rule specifies that U.S. radio and television broadcast stations must provide an equivalent opportunity to any opposing political candidates who request it.

What is strict scrutiny? Strict scrutiny is a test used by the Supreme Court in racial discrimination cases and other cases involving civil liberties, to test the people.
What is Citizens United? landmark U.S. constitutional law, campaign finance, and corporate law case dealing with regulation of political campaign spending by organizations.
What happened to Judith Miller? (2005) Judith Miller was a New York Times reporter who was jailed because she refused to tell a federal grand jury the name of a confidential source in case involving the leaked identity of the CIA analyst Valerie Plame.
What is the Supreme Courts perspective concerning commercial speech? "no more than propose a commercial transaction"
What does the second amendment deal with? The second amendment states the right to keep and bear arms.
Describe a bill of attainder: A bill of attainder is where someone is automatically declared guilty of a crime without a trial.
what is selective incorporation? Selective incorporation is a doctrine describing the ability of the federal government to prevent states from enacting laws that violate some of the basic constitutional rights of the American citizens.
Why was the Bill of Rights added to the Constitution? it was necessary to safeguard individual liberty.
What is the Free Exercis clause? The Free Excercise clause is a clause that states that the government cannot forbid any group to worship.
The Wall of Separation is in what clause of the Constitution? The Wall of Separation is in the establishment clause of the constitution.
Who first wrote a "wall of separation?' The Wall of Separation was written by Jefferson. In the Van Orden case.
Descrobe the Van Orden and the McCreary case it was ruled that a display of the Ten Commandments at the Texas State Capitol did not violate the constitution. In the same year, the McCreary case ruled that is was unconstitutional to display the Ten Commandments in two Kentucky courthouses.
Define Exit polls. a poll of people leaving a polling place, asking how they voted.

Give examples of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties An example of civil right- the right to a fair trial and public education, Right to bear arms. An example of civil liberty- the freedom to practice whatever religion you choose, an the right to privacy, freedom of the press.
