What are three things that are alike in the Senate and the House of Representatives? In the Senate, you must live in your state, must be 30 years old, and must be a citizen in the U.S. for 9 years. In the House of Representative, you must live in your state and district, must be 25 years old, and must be a citizen for 7 years.

Explain one scandal that Congress had to deal with in the past. The Fast and the Furious - Money and guns were sent across the border to see if the guns and money were going to used. Border patrol officers were shot with the guns.
What are 3 expressed powers of the government? Ratifying treaties, regulating trade, and declaring war
What does the 27th Amendment do? The 27th Amendment allows for congress members to increase their pay after an election.
What part does the Senate have when the president makes a treaty? The Senate approves the treaty.
What are Implied Powers? What is an example of an implied power? Implied Powers - powers that aren't directed stated but are required to fulfill the obligation of of expressed powers. Drafting Americans in the military.
What is an incumbent? What are their chances of being re-elected? Someone who is currentlly holding office; seventy percent
What is the difference between a primary election and a general election? A primary election is small election. A general election is the main election.
What are some of the privileges a member of Congress is given? Free mail, own subway system, reserved restaurants, money for transportation, can't be arrested during session
What are the qualification of each member of Congress? Senate - Must be 30 years old, U.S. Citizen for 9 years, live in state House of Reps- Must be 25 years old, U.S. Citizen for 7 years, live in state and district
What is gerrymandering? How are the districts drawn up? Drawing illogical district lines to give the advantage to one party. By state legislators.
Why is one-third of the Senate up for election every two years? So someone experienced can always be in office.
What is the purpose of a discharge petition? How many members are needed for it? A discharge petition is bringing a bill down to be voted on. 60 members are needed for it.
What is a filibuster? A filibuster is a way to kill time by speaking for an extremely long time to let the time run out on a deadline for voting for a bill or to wear down the opposition.(Talking a bill to death).
What is cloture? Senate created "Rule 22" or the cloture rule that requires a two-thirds supermajority to end a debate on a bill and a call for a vote
What are three types of voting used in Congress? Electronic voting, standing vote, roll call, ay or nay.
Committee of the Whole A committee that includes all of Congress
Standing Committee A permanent committee
AD Hoc Committee Formed for a specific task, and dissolved after the completion of the task
Joint Committee A standing committee that includes the House and the Senate
Conference Committee Created to iron out the differences on bills passed through each house.
Floor Leader The majority and minority leaders. Lead debates among their party and guide the discussion from the side of the aisle.
Whip Assistant floor leaders that are in charge of party discipline. The whip keeps tally of votes among his or her party members.
Majority Leaders The head of the majority party in the Senate or the House
President Pro-Tempure The member with the most experience in the majority party that serves as president when the V.P. is gone.
Committee Makeup The committee must reflect the party with the most seats. Example: If there are 60 members Republican and 40 members Democrat, in a ten person committee, 6 must be Reps and 4 in Senate
