Terms & abbreviations from ch 2

TermDefinition
Chronic (KRAH-nik) It has been going on for a while now.
Idiopathic (ih-dee-oh-PA-thic) No known specific cause; it just happens.
NPO Nil per os (nothing by mouth)
Pathogen (PATH-oh-jin) The organism that causes the problem.
Lethargic (lah-THAR-jik) A decrease in level of consciousness.
SOAP Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan.
Palpation (pal-PAY-shun) To feel.
PACU Post-anesthesia Care Unit
Sterile (STEH-ril) Extremely clean, germ-free conditions.
Phlebotomist (fleh-BOH-tow-mist) Trained in the removal of blood from the body for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.
