TermDefinition
Experimental Research test an idea to determine whether it influences an outcome or dependent variable; have 2 or more groups to study; establish possible cause and effect between variables
Descriptive research statistical; describes data and characteristics about the population or phenomenon being studied; does not answer how/when/why
correlational study looks for consistent relationships between two phenomena
action research solve an immediate problem; the rationality and just of own practices, way to address issues and solve problems
collaborative coaching teachers and coaches identify strengths and areas for growth, formulate practice goals, and design data-based plan to improve instruction and behavior management; ongoing teacher formative assessment; feedback and support are key
cross-sectional looking at people who different in a key characteristic at a specific point in time;
case study researchers focus on a bounded system; answers descriptive questions
