apnea | cessation of breathing |
bradypnea | slow breathing |
bronchorrhea | discharge from the bronchi |
bronchospasm | involuntary contraction of the bronchia |
dysphonia | "bad voice condition"; hoarseness |
dyspnea | difficulty breathing |
epistaxis | nosebleed |
eupnea | good/normal breathing |
expectoration | coughing or spitting material out of the lungs |
hemoptysis | coughing up blood |
hyperpnea | heavy breathing |
hyperventilation | over breathing; condition of having too much air flowing into and out of the lungs; leads to hypocapnia |
hypopnea | shallow breathing |
hypoventilation | under breathing; condition of having too little air flowing into and out of the lungs; leads to hypercania |
orthopnea | able to breathe only in an upright position |
phrenospasm | involuntary contraction of the diaphragm |
pleurodynia | pain in the pleura |
pleuralgia | pain in the pleura |
rhinorrhagia | excessive blood flow from the nose (another term for nosebleed) |
rhinorrhea | runny nose |
sputum | mucus discharged from the lungs by coughing |
tachypnea | rapid breathing |
thoracalgia | chest pain |
