| apnea | cessation of breathing |
| bradypnea | slow breathing |
| bronchorrhea | discharge from the bronchi |
| bronchospasm | involuntary contraction of the bronchia |
| dysphonia | "bad voice condition"; hoarseness |
| dyspnea | difficulty breathing |
| epistaxis | nosebleed |
| eupnea | good/normal breathing |
| expectoration | coughing or spitting material out of the lungs |
| hemoptysis | coughing up blood |
| hyperpnea | heavy breathing |
| hyperventilation | over breathing; condition of having too much air flowing into and out of the lungs; leads to hypocapnia |
| hypopnea | shallow breathing |
| hypoventilation | under breathing; condition of having too little air flowing into and out of the lungs; leads to hypercania |
| orthopnea | able to breathe only in an upright position |
| phrenospasm | involuntary contraction of the diaphragm |
| pleurodynia | pain in the pleura |
| pleuralgia | pain in the pleura |
| rhinorrhagia | excessive blood flow from the nose (another term for nosebleed) |
| rhinorrhea | runny nose |
| sputum | mucus discharged from the lungs by coughing |
| tachypnea | rapid breathing |
| thoracalgia | chest pain |
