What are the side fx of mini pill? GI; nausea, bloating GU: irregular bleeding 3. weight gain 4. headache 5. acne/oily skin/hirsutism with more androgenic prep 5. persistent ovarian follicles
What are the absolute C/I of mini? do not know of one
What are the relative C/Is of mini? 1. prev ectopic 2. current functional ovarian cysts 3. severe liver disease 4. severe arterial disease 5. breast ca
What is the basic make up of a COCP? ethinyl estradiol plus a progestin
What additional compound may be present in COCPs? Cytoproterone acetate(anti-androgenic fx), drospirone (reduce bloating)
How are COCPs taken? 21 days with 7 days off/7 days of inert tablets
What is the difference b/w MOA of COCP and progestin? Suppresses ovulation by inhibiting LH and FSH. Rest are like progestin
What is considered a missed pill in COCP? more than 12 hours
What should a pt who missed a COCP do? take pill, and extra contraceptive precautions for 7 days
What if less than 7 pills are left in COCP packet and they are missed? start next packet and do not go pill free
How long does it take to return to fertility in COCP? 3 months
What cancers does the COCP protect against? Endometrial and ovarian Ca (and benign breast disease)
What cancers does the COCP increase the risk of? cervical ca
