carcinoma (Ca) in situ malignant tumor that is localized, circumscribed, encapsulated, and noninvasive, but has not spread to deeper or adjacent tissues or organs.
Closed fracture type of fracture that is contained beneath the skin and has intact ligaments and skin .
combination code single code used to classified two diagnoses (or procedures), a diagnosis with an associated secondary progress (manifestation) , or a diagnosis with an associated complication.
compound fracture (see open fracture) type of fracture that has an associated open wound.
contiguous sites adjacent locations as in cancer of multiple sites that overlap or border each other (e.g., nasopharynx and oropharynx cancer.)
fracture break in bone resulting from injury or a disease process
laterality ICD-10-CM, whether the condition occurs on the left, the right, or is is bilateral; in CPT, whether the procedure is performed bilaterally; in CPT, when laterality is not indicated in the procedure description for paired organs or body parts
malignant cancerous
malunion failure of the ends of a fractured bone to heal (unite).
metastatic cancer (see secondary malignancy) tumor that has metastasized, or spread, to a secondary site either adjacent to the primary site or to a remote region of the body.
multiple codes more than one ICD-10-CM code that is assigned to completely classify the elements of a complex diagnosis (or procedure ) statement.
neoplasm new growth, or tumor, in which cell reproduction is out of control .
nonunion (see malunion) failure of the ends of a fractured bone to heal (unite).
open fracture type of fracture that has an associated open wound.
opportunistic infection one that takes advantages of the body's weakened defenses, such as in an HIV-positive patient.
overlapping sites (see contiguous sites) adjacent locations as in cancer of multiple sites that overlap or border each other (e.g., nasopharynx and oropharynx cancer.)
perinatal period interval of time occurring before, during , and up to 28 days following birth.
primary malignancy original tumor site.
residual effect condition produced (sequela) after the acute phase of an illness or injury has terminated.
secondary malignancy tumor that has metastasized, or spread, to a secondary site either adjacent to the primary site or to a remote region of the body.
sequela A sequela is a pathological condition resulting from a disease, injury, therapy, or other trauma.
simple fracture (see closed fracture) type of fracture that is contained beneath the skin and has intact ligaments and skin .
type 1 diabetes mellitus a condition in which the patient's body is unable to produce insulin.
type 2 diabetes mellitus A condition in which the patient's body is unable to properly use insulin produced.
uncertain behavior subsequence morphology or behavior that cannot be predicted based on the submitted specimen; the tissue appears to be in transition , and the pathologist cannot establish a definitive diagnosis.
unspecified nature neoplasm is identified, but the results of pathology examination are not available: thus, there is no indication as to histology or nature of the tumor.
