What is a mesentery? An organ that holds the large and small intestine.
How long is the small intestine? 22 feet
How much saliva do your salivary glands produce each day? 1.5 liters
How long does it take for a bolus to get from your esophagus to your stomach? 7 seconds
How much food does a full stomach hold? 1.5 liters
How long is the esophagus? 25 centimeters
For how long does your food stay in your stomach? 4 hours
What is the total time it takes to digest your food? 30 to 40 hours
What is mechanical digestion? The physical breakdown of food through chewing
What is chemical digestion? The use of enzymes to break down a food mass.
What do gastric and hydrochloric acids do? They kill bacteria in your food.
