occipitofrontalis function raises eyebrows and wrinkles forehead
orbicularis oculi function closes eye
nasalis function dilates nostrils
orbicularis oris closes and purses lips
zygomaticus major pulls corners of mouth upwards and outwards
zygomaticus minor raises upper lip
buccinator compresses cheek
platysma wrinkles skin of neck
temporalis elevates and retracts mandible
masseter elevates mandible
medial pterygoid opens and closes jaw. moves jaw from side to side and forwards and backwards
lateral pterygoid opens and protrudes and laterally moves mandible
sternocleidomastoid both muscles acting together flex neck. individually the muscles draw the head to that shoulder
splenius capitis both muscles together extend neck. individual each muscle laterally flexes and rotates head
semispinalis capitis both muscle together extend together. individually each muscle rotates the head
longissimus capitis both muscles together extend head. individually muscle will turn face to the same side
trapezius elevates and retracts scapula and depresses its medial aspect. extends and laterally flexes head and neck
