QuestionAnswer
STATES OF MATTER All living things living and nonliving anything taking up space and has a mass. Mass is the amount of matter in an object and weight is the gravitaional force.
Define energy The ability to do work
Define and expain the two types of energy Kinetic movement of an object. Potential energy is stored energy.
Define the forms of energy. Mechanical energy: resulting form the position or movement of the body.Chemical energy:is a form of stored energy
Whenever energy is transformed, what is lost? Heat is given off
What is the orbital model of atomic structure? Is the model of electrons in an atom.
Atomic number is equal to the number of? Protons
Atomic Mass represents what? Number of protons plus nuetrons
What makes an isotope? An element that has the same number of protons but different number of nuetrons. Same atomic numbers but different mass numbers.
Differentiate between an element and a compound. An element is the simplest type of matter with unique chemical and physical properties. A compound is two elements together.
Differentiate between an atom and a molecule and a compound. Atom is the smallest particle of an element that has the characteristics of that element. A molecule is when two or more atoms combine. Compound is two or more different atoms combined.
What are the parts of a solution? Solution are described in which one substance is dissolving in another: The solute dissolves in the solvent.
What is the universal solvent? H2O
Name three types of chemical bonds, and what makes each of these bonds. Ionic,Covalent, and Hydrogen Bond.Ionic-weak When a ion loses an electronColvalent-sharing electrons When atoms share more than one electronHydrogen Bond-weak bond Is formed when positive end of one polar molecule is weakly attracted to negative end
What is the difference between a polar and nonpolar molecules give examples. Polar when electrons are shared unequally(water molecules)Non-polar when electrons are share equally between atoms(hydrogen molecules oxygen)
When does a chemical reaction occur? A chemical reaction occurs when a chemical reaction is changed by forming and breaking chemical bonds.
What happens when chemical equilibruim is reached? The amount of the reactants relative to the amount of products remain certain.
