| convention | a meeting held for the purpose of amending the Constitution |
| repeal | to remove a previous govt. action or law |
| incorporation | adding the protections of the Bill of Rights and later amendments to all 50 states |
| militia | a local group of armed citizens |
| probable cause | a reasonable belief that a person is linked to a crime |
| eminent domain | the power of the govt. to take private property for public use by providing compensation to the owner |
| impeach | to formally charge and attempt to remove an elected official (president) from power for a high crime |
| enumerated powers | the 18 listed powers of Congress found in Article I section 8 |
| elastic clause | the "necessary and proper" clause that allows Congress to stretch its powers beyond the enumerated ones |
| jurisdiction | the limits or territory that define which court has the right to hear a case |
| judicial review | the power of the Supreme Court to declare laws and actions of local, state, and national governments unconstitutional |
| national supremacy | a state's constitution must be amended if part of it comes into conflict with the US Constitution |
| amendment | an addition or change to the Constitution |
| article | one of the seven main sections of the Constitution |
