Anatomy of the Muscles

TermDefinition
types of muscles skeletal, cardiac, smooth
skeletal muscle voluntary (you can control it) connects to bones and tendons for movement
Cardiac muscle only found in the heart, involuntary (cannot be controlled)
smooth muscle found in the organs and veins and arteries, is involuntary
myo- prefix meaning muscles
ligaments connect bone to bone
tendons connect bone to muscles
cartilage padding that protects bones from rubbing against each other, is soft and flexible
