| Gerrymandering | Drawing legislative districts' boundaries to give an unfair advantage to a particular group or party. |
| Invisible Primary | Year before a presidential election where the potential presidential candidates raise funds, gather party support and attempt to capture media coverage. |
| Frontloading | Practice of the states to move their primaries to the beginning of the year (Jan-Mar) to determine the front runners of the campaign. |
| Swing States | Determine the outcome of the election; not solely Democrat or Republican |
| Battleground States | Candidates spend lots of money and time in these states because the outcome is uncertain. |
| Microtargeting | Focusing on a specific group to tailor political messages for them. |
| Valence Issues | Non-controversial issues that have support among candidates regardless of parties. |
| Position Issues | Controversial issues that demonstrate major differences among candidates. |
