| Deep | Away from the surface |
| Dorsal | Toward the back, posterior |

| Inferior | Lowermost or below |
| Intermediate | Between median and lateral, between 2 other sturctures |
| Lateral | Toward the side, away from the medial side |
| Medial | Nearest the midline of the body |
| Palmar | Anterior surface of the hand |
| Peripheral | Away from the center, distal |
| Plantar | Interior surface of the foot |
| Posterior | Toward the back, dorsal |
| Proximal | Nearest the point of attachment or origin |
| Superficial | Near the surface |
| Superior | Uppermost or above |
| Ventral | Same as anterior---- (Toward the front) |
