Executive Branch

| Foreign Policy | president's job of formulating the nation's plans and procedures dealing with other countries |
| Diplomacy | the art of negotiating with other country's governments |
| Executive Orders | formal, signed statements from the president that instruct or guide executive officials and have the force of law |
| Chief of Staff | official of manages the everyday operations of the White House Office, may serve as the primary adviser to the President |
| Bureaucracy | type of organization in the government that have a clear formal structure, a division of labor, and a set of rules and procedures by which it operates |
| Chief Executive | title for the president, who holds the executive's power to run government programs and implement laws passed by Congress |
| Commander in Chief | title for the president, who serves as leader of the nation's armed forces |
| Chief of State | title for the president, takes on the role of the symbolic figurehead of the United States |
| Executive Privilege | power that allows a president to refuse to release information to Congress or a court |
| Diplomatic Recognition | power the president has to formally recognize the legitimacy of a foreign government |
| Executive Departments | responsible for carrying out laws, administering programs, and making regulations in their area of responsibility |
