| Term | Definition |

| Anatomical position | This is when your body is erect, feet are slightly apart, and your thumbs are pointing away from the body. This is how we always view the body. |
| Directional Terms | Used to describe the anatomical position of a part in relation to another. |
| Superior | Toward the head, or above something. |
| Inferior | Below, or lower in position. |
| Ventral (anterior) | Towards the front of something. |
| Dorsal (posterior) | Towards the back of the body. (spine is dorsal to your stomach) |
| Medial | Toward the midline of the body. ( >{}< ) |
| Lateral | away from the midline of the body ( <{}> ) |
| Proximal | Closer to the attachment or limb to the body trunk. |
| Trunk | Torso |
| Distal | Farther from the attachment of a limb to the body trunk |
