Directional Terms

Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Anatomical Position Body erect, feet slightly apart, palms facing forward, & thumbs.
Directional Terms Used to describe the anatomical position of a body part in relation to another.
Superior Used to refer to what is above.
In ferior To what is below.
Anterior or Ventral Towards the front
Dorsal or Posterior Towards The Back
Medial Toward the midline of the body
Lateral Away from the midline of the body
Trunk Where your head & limbs attach.
Proximal Closer to the attachment of a limb to the body trunk
Distal Father from the attachment of a limb to the body trunk
