Ch. 3 Pharmacology

Pharmacokinetics

QuestionAnswer
What is Pharmacokinetics? the study of how medications move through the body
What are the 4 ACTIONS of pharmacokinetics? Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, & Excretion
What is Absorption? the body converts medication into a form the body can use and moves it into the bloodstream,
What is Distribution? the transportation of the medication through the body.
What is Metabolism? changes the medication into harmless metabolites that the liver and kidneys prepare it for excretion through urine or feces.
What is Excretion? the removal of a medications metabolites from the body. (Bladder and large intestines through urine/feces)
