Overview of glands and the hormones that they release.

Hypothalmus Releases: Hypothalamic releasing/inhibiting hormones Function: Regulates anteriorpituitary hormones
Thyroid Releases: Thyroxine, triiodothyronine, and calcitonin Functions: Stimulates metabolic rate and aids in growth/development
Parathyroid Releases: Parathyroid hormone Function: Raises blood calcium level
Anterior Pituitary Releases: TSH, ACTH, FSH, LH, PRL, GH, and MSH Stimulates multiple glands/organs, particularly those related to sexual maturation and growth
Adrenal Gland (Adrenal Cortex/Adrenal Medula) Releases: Cortisol, aldosterone, sex hormones, and epinephrine and norepinephrine Function: Multiple functions, sex related, adrenaline release, stress responses
Pancrease Releases: Insulin, glucagon, and somatostatin Function: Regulates blood sugar levels
Gonads (Testes/Ovaries) Releases: Testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone Function: Stimulates male/female sex characteristics, and T-lymphocyte production
Pineal Gland Releases: Melatonin Function: Control of circadian rhythm (sleep cycle)
