Hypothalmus | Releases: Hypothalamic releasing/inhibiting hormones Function: Regulates anteriorpituitary hormones |
Thyroid | Releases: Thyroxine, triiodothyronine, and calcitonin Functions: Stimulates metabolic rate and aids in growth/development |
Parathyroid | Releases: Parathyroid hormone Function: Raises blood calcium level |
Anterior Pituitary | Releases: TSH, ACTH, FSH, LH, PRL, GH, and MSH Stimulates multiple glands/organs, particularly those related to sexual maturation and growth |
Adrenal Gland (Adrenal Cortex/Adrenal Medula) | Releases: Cortisol, aldosterone, sex hormones, and epinephrine and norepinephrine Function: Multiple functions, sex related, adrenaline release, stress responses |
Pancrease | Releases: Insulin, glucagon, and somatostatin Function: Regulates blood sugar levels |
Gonads (Testes/Ovaries) | Releases: Testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone Function: Stimulates male/female sex characteristics, and T-lymphocyte production |
Pineal Gland | Releases: Melatonin Function: Control of circadian rhythm (sleep cycle) |
