TermDefinition
Direct Democracy A system of government where all voters meet in one place to decide what action to take
Representative Democracy A system of government where the people consent to be ruled by their elected leaders
Monarch A king or queen
Dictator A person who rules with complete and absolute power
Sovereignty The authority of a state or country to govern itself; absolute power
Constitution A written plan of government
Confederation A loose association of states
Democracy Rule of the people
Federalism A system of government in which the powers are divided between the national and state governments
Compromise An agreement in which each side gives up part of its demands
Ratification Approval by a formal vote
Federalist Those who supported the Constitution and urged its adoption
Anti-Federalist Those who opposed the Constitution and urged its rejection
Republic A representative democracy
