Terms and Definitions From Chapter 1

TermDefinition
Anatomy The study of body structures and their relationship to other structures. The study of body parts
Physiology The study of functions of a body part.
Atoms The smallest unit of matter that retains it's chemical properties.
Molecules Atoms that are joined together.
Macromolecules Many molecules joined together.
Organelles Cellular "organs" or subunits that perform functions for the cell.
Cell The most basic unit of life.
Tissues Cells that have joined together to perform a task.
Organs Several tissues that have joined together to perform a particular task within an organ system.
