1) FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION there are 5 freedoms that are given here, all are limited. Speech Religion Press Right to assemble [protest] Right to petition [the govt.]
2) RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS this secured the right for Americans to have guns for protection and food
3) NO QUARTERING OF TROOPS during the Colonial times British “Red Coats” living with and or on the land of Colonist w/o consent. This is outlawed now.
4) PROPER SEARCH & SEIZURES this outlines when the govt. can secure and seize. Probable cause or a warrant is needed.
5) RIGHTS OF THE ACCUSED at the time a person is arrested [accused] they have rights, they are: Indictment by grand jury No double jeopardy No self incrimination Due process Eminent domain
6) RIGHT TO A “SPEEDY & FAIR TRIAL” [JURY REQUIREMENTS] Speedy & fair trial by jury Be informed of the charge [Mirandized] Right to confront witness Right to a subpoena Right to counsel [lawyer]
7) CIVIL JURY REQUIREMENTS common law matters, controversy shall exceed $20, right to trial by jury here too.
8) EXCESSIVE PUNISHMENT [CRUEL & UNUSUAL] this is prohibited in the USA, some states view capital punishment to be against this amendment and therefore do not practice it.
9) RIGHTS KEPT BY THE PEOPLE [PRIVACY] vague writing here.
10) STATE’S RIGHTS these are decisions that the State’s get to make that the Federal govt. leaves alone [or partially leaves alone]. Examples are Education, highway behavior, marriage and divorce…]
11) STATE LAWSUITS when a state can sue a state [1 on 1 = 11]
12) ELECTION OF THE PRESIDENT & VICE PRESIDENT electoral college
13) SLAVERY is ended in the USA
14) CITIZENSHIP, CIVIL RIGHTS, DUE PROCESS, & EQUAL PROTECTION his is part of the 3 civil rights amendments [13-14-15] that made the African-Americans humans, Americans and extended to them the protections of the law. 4 important features are: Citizenship Privileges & immunities clause Equal protection clause
15) RACE VOTING Black men are able to vote w/ this amendment
16) INCOME TAX “Uncle Sam” gets a portion of your paycheck
17) USA SENATORS ELECTIONS “at large” voting no district lines, making voting fair and each vote counting. THIS INCREASES THE PARTICIPATION IN DEMOCRACY.
18) PROHIBITION alcoholic drinks are illegal [Roaring 1920’s]
19) GENDER VOTING women secures the right to vote [1919/1920]
20) PRESIDENTIAL TERMS this is the “Lame Duck” [outgoing legal president who lost the next election], and set January 20th as the oath to office day, and names a line up.
21) REPEAL PROHIBITION brought back alcohol but w/ rules
22) PRESIDENTIAL TERM LIMITS 2 terms or 10 years limits
23) WASHINGTON, D.C. secured the right to vote
24) POLL TAX ILLEGAL can not “mess” with people at the polls, charge $, or give exams
25) PRESIDENTIAL DISABILITY hurt, sick, etc. VP will act as President
26) 18 VOTING due to the Vietnam crisis, 18 year olds secured the right to vote
27) CONGRESSIONAL PAY [RAISE] has to be intervening election years
