What is the purpose of a Statement of Creditable Service (SOCS)? | A SOCS: • establishes a members service dates: DIEMS, Pay Base Date, and Active Duty Base Date. |
What is the purpose of a Statement of Creditable Sea Service (SOCSS)? | A SOCSS documents creditable Sea Service history to determine cumulative career sea time for pay purposes. The SOCSS will only list vessels that are sea pay eligible. |
When a SOCS is requested will a SOCSS be automatically completed by PPC? | No, upon receipt of a SOCS request at PPC, only the SOCS will be completed unless the SOCSS is also specifically requested for members who have a discrepancy in their sea time. |
Name one of the six reasons to request a SOCS and/or SOCSS? | 1. The member's service dates (DIEMS, Active Duty Base Date, Pay Base Date) or the member's sea time is incorrect. |

What documentation may be needed for personnel with prior creditable service other than Coast Guard or Coast Guard Reserve? | For personnel with prior creditable service other than CG or CG Res include: All contracts. All Discharge Documents including DD-214's and NGB 22 and 23's for National Guard members.All Oath of Office (Officers). A Reserve Point Statements |
What documentation may be needed for personnel with prior Coast Guard, Coast Guard Reserve and/or other creditable service? | The SPO will ensure CG DD-214s and contracts are in the EI-PDR and include: For Res Duty, all Res Ret Pt State for the periods in question. A “History of Assign”, if avail from the Navy. All Hist of Unit Assign that cover all of the time on the DD-214. |
If a member’s SOCS is incorrect and they say it is due to their DD-214 being incorrect, what can they do? | If you have a dispute with the accuracy of a DD-214, you can request a Board of Corrections to Military Records by completing the DD Form 149. For additional information, please visit |
If you have not received the SOCS after how many days can you request status? | Note: Do not request SOCS completion status less than 120 days from initial request date. |
What can be requested for a member when a SOCS is taking a long time to obtain? | We can offer the member an Interim Adjustment. This interim adjustment is based off the DD-214 to provided PPC (ADV) by the member's SPO. |
What is the purpose of an interim adjustment? | To help the member get his pay corrected in a timely manner. PPC will only use blks 12A/12B of the DD-214 for pay base date and will not count any active/inactive time. If coming from the res will only use the pt state from the other Services. |
What section of the SPO PDR does a request of a SOCS and/or SOCSS get filed? | The SPO will file a copy of the SOCS request in the member's PDR, section 1, to serve as supporting documentation for crediting the member with prior service time for pay entry base date and active duty base date purposes. |
