Limited Government Government isn't all powerful, bound to certain principles of action by a state constitution.
Judicial Review Review by the Supreme Court of the constitutional validity of a legislative act, established Constitution as the supreme law of the land.
Checks and Balances Government where each branch is subject to constitutional restraints. Counterbalancing influences
Federalism Compound government. Both central and state governments have power.
Seperation of Powers Separating the legislative, executive, and judicial powers into different branches.
Popular Sovereignty Authority of a state and it's government is created and sustained bythe consent of the people, the governed, through elected representatives, rule by the power. Source of political power
What are the 5 things the Preamble says are necessary to form 'a more perfect union'? Establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.
Purpose of Article 1, Sections 1-3? Only Congress makes laws, establishes the House of Representatives amd the Senate.
Purpose of Article 1, Sections 4-7? States powers and and limitations of the legislative branch
Purpose of Article 1, Sections 8-10? Powers and limitations between Congress amd the States
Who is the president of the Senate, when can they vote? The Vice President, only if there's a tie.
Purpose of Article 2? Establishes the Executive branch
Purpose of Article 3? Established and outlined the Supreme Court
Purpose of Article 4? Responsibilities and duties the federal and state governments have to the people
Purpose of Article 5? Provides methods for changing the Constitution
What fraction of the houses of Congress is necessary to approve a proposed amendment? two-thirds vote
What fraction of States is needed to ratify an amendment? three-fourths vote
Purpose of Article 6? Establish the Supremacy clause and seperate religion from government
What tests may not be included in office oaths? Religious tests
Purpose of Article 7? Estbalish the number of states necessary to ratify the Constitution
What rights are protected under the 1st Amendment? Freedom of speech, religion, press, to petition, and to asssemble.
What right is protected under the 8th Amendment? No cruel or unusual punishments
What Amendment abolished slavery? The 13th Amendment
What right is protected under the 19th Amendment? Anyone can vote regardless of sex.
What Amendment allows anyone over age 18 to vote? The 26th Amendment
