What is the purpose of the preamble? It explains why framers of the constitution made our government a republic and why the document was written
How many articles are there? 7
What is the purpose of the articles? They establish the branches of the federal government and describe what powers they have
What is an amendment? A minor change in a document
How many times has the constitution been amended? 27 times
1st Amendment? Freedom of speech, religion, press, petition, and peaceful assembly
2nd Amendment The right to bear arms
4th Amendment Protects against unreasonable searches and seizures
5th Amendment Criminal proceedings and prevents double jeopardy and and self incrimination
8th Amendment Protects against cruel and unusual punishment
6th Amendment Guarantees a trial by jury
13th Amendment Abolished slavery
15th Amendment All men can vote
19th Amendment Gives women the right to vote
24th Amendment Band poll taxes
26th Amendment Makes 18 the legal voting age
