| allele | different forms of a trait that a gene may have |
| genetics | the study of how traits are inherited through the interactions of allele |
| hybrid | they receive different genetic information, or different alleles, for a trait from each parent |
| dominate | it dominated, or covered up, the short form |
| recessive | the form that disappeared |
| Punnet Squares | tool used to predict the passing of traits in genetics |
| genotype | genetic makeup of an organism |
| phenotype | the way an organism looks or behaves as a result of its genotype |
| homozygous | organism with two alleles that are the SAME heterozygous |
| heterozygous | organism that has two DIFFERENT alleles for a trait |
| chromosome | structure in a cells nucleus that contains hereditary material (DNA) |
| DNA | deoxyribonucleic acid; the genetic material of all organism;made up of two twisted strands of sugar-phosphate molecules and nitrogen bases |
