| Autocracy | Absolute rule; citizens have no say in the government |
| Democracy | All citizens have a say in the government |
| Oligarchy | Ruled by a few; citizens have no say in the government |
| Three types of government | Democracy, autocracy, oligarchy |
| Types of democracy | Constitutional monarchy, parliamentary, republic, presidential |
| Absolute Monarchy | Absolute rule by the king or the queen; citizens have no say in the government |
| Constitutional monarchy | A democracy has a king or queen; the government is ruled by the people and a set of laws |
| Presidential democracy | A system of government which an executive branch exist but is separate from the legislature |
| Parliamentary democracy | Democracy where people elect lawmakers, but not leaders |
| Republic | The power is in the people who vote and are exercised by representatives chosen by the people directly or indirectly |
| European union | Political economic union of 28 member states located in Europe primarily |
| Euro | Currency of 19 of the 28 member countries of the EU |
| Power distribution | Unitary, federal, confederation |
| Unitary | One strong, central government (ex: Cuba, UK) |
| Federal | Levels of government (ex: Germany, U.S.) |
| Confederation | Several individual governments united in alliance (ex: European Union) |
| United Kingdom | Unitary, Prime Minister, democracy |
| Russia | Federal, president, democracy |
| Germany | Federal, chancellor, democracy |
| Direct democracy | People vote on laws directly/themselves. Countries no longer use direct democracies |
