bicameral two house law making body
Speaker of the House the presiding officer for the House of Representatives
President Pro Tempore Presides over the Senate in the absence of the Vice President
Checks and Balances A system in which the powers of the government are balanced and each branch can limit the powers of the other branches
Party Whip the assistant to the leaders of each house of Congress
Budget A plan of income and spending
Floor Leader Leader of a Party in Congress
Committees A group of senators or representatives who consider legislation(bills) and hold hearings.
Minority Party the party in congress with fewer members
Majority Party the political party in congress with the most members
legislative branch the law making branch of the government
implied powers powers not specifically listed in the constitution
expressed powers powers specifically written in the constitution
