Vocabulary words for eleciton unit

| President | The head of a government in which the people elect their leaders |
| Democracy | a form of government in which the people elect their leaders by voting |
| Republic | a country that is governed by elected officials (such as a president) |
| POTUS | acronym for President of the United States |
| Candidate | a person who seeks an office (such as the president) |
| Platform | the declared policy of a political party or group |
| Campaign | the competition by rival political candidates and organizations for public office |
| Debate | a discussion involving opposing viewpoints |
| Delegates | individuals who represent their state during the election process |
| Primary | a preliminary election in which voters of each party nominate candidates for office |
| Caucus | a meeting of party members to select a candidate for office |
| Super Tuesday | a day in which several states hold primary elections |
| National Convention | the convention of a major political party in which they nominate a candidate for presidency |
| Nomination | the selection of a person to be candidate for a political office |
| General Election | A national election in which voters elect a president |
| GOP | Grand Old Party, a name used for the Republican party |
| Incumbent | the holder of an office, a person running for office who is currently holding the office |
| Popular Vote | when the people of the United States vote for their presidential candidate of choice |
| Swing State | a states in the US in which the Democratic and Republican candidates both have a good chance of winning |
| Endorsement | an act of giving one’s public approval or support to someone or something |
| Ballot | a process of voting, in writing, and typically in secret |
| Electoral College | a body of electors chosen by the voters in each state to elect the president and vice president of the U.S. |
| Majority | when more than half of the electoral votes are in favor of one candidate |
