| Limited Government | Government is NOT all powerful-it may only do what the people give it the power to do. |
| Democracy | Government in which the people rule. |
| Charter | A written grant by a country's legislative power, by which an institution such as a company, college, or city is created and its rights and privileges are defined. |
| Domestic | Existing or occurring inside a particular country. |
| Declaration | A formal statement or announcement. |
| Confederation | An organization that consists of a number of parties or groups united in an alliance. |
| Statute | A written law passed by a legislative body |
| Preamble | The introduction to the Constitution. |
| Congress | The national legislative branch of the US |
| Ordain | To order something officially |
| Liberty | Freedom |
| Welfare | The health, happiness, and fortunes of a group or person |
| Ratify | To give formal consent |
| Propose | To put forward an idea for consideration or discussion by others |
| Representative Government | People elect leaders to make the laws and govern on their behalf |
| Consent of the Governed | Citizens are the source of all government power. |
| Grievance | An official statement of a complaint over something believed to be wrong or unfair |
| Justice | Fair behavior or treatment |
| Affirmed | To state as fact |
| Posterity | All future generations of people |
| Amendment | A change or addition to the Constitution |
| Pursuit | The act of following or going after something |
| Tranquility | Calm; peaceful |
| Rule of Law | All people including those who govern are bound by law |
| Unalienable Rights | Rights that cannot be taken away or denied |
| Fundamental | The base or foundation of something |
| Principle | An idea that you live by |
