blood & nerve supply

nutrient artery and vein - invade the medullary cavity through the nutrient foramen - sensory nerves enter here also
metaphyseal vessels supply blood to the diaphysis side of the epiphyseal cartilage
periosteal vessels supply blood to the superficail osteons of the shaft and the epiphyses
blood and nerve supply to bone -all of these become extensively connected - require and extensive blood supply
