| concentric lamellae | (layers)- matrix |
| collagen | 1/3 weight- more flexibility |
| calcium phosphate | 2/3 weight- provides strength or hardness |
| calcium phosphate | interacts with calcium hydroxide to form hydroxyapatite |
| hydroxyapatite | crystals- most compact bone |
| interstitial lamellae | fills the spaces between the osteons |
